The award, which was established by former UB president (1954–1966) Dr. Clifford Furnas, serves
to “recognize outstanding undergraduate performance in scholarship and athletic prowess.” Coaches
are encouraged to nominate any seniors who are planning to go on to graduate school. Once nominations
are in, the Furnas Committee reviews the candidates and recommends one award recipient. The honor
includes a one-year grant for graduate study.
