High School: Earned four letters and captained two seasons at Norwin High School for coach Neil Rushnock. Broke the record in the 50 and 100 freestyle and was an All-American in 2008 and 2009. Also Swam for the GPAC Bulldogs for coach Alex Kinzler.

Personal: Born May 8, 1991. Son of Patrick and Diane Smrekar. Has one brother (Danny) and three sisters (Jessica, Stephanie, Rachael). Favorite TV show is Family Guy. Favorite food is pizza and hamburgers. Chose UB because of the talented swim team and the highly ranked engineering school. Also recruited by Pittsburgh, Ohio State and Western Kentucky . Majoring in engineering physics.
