Men's and Women's Swimmers Fall at Eastern Michigan Ruske wins two men's events, Marecki and Carpenter take pair for women
YPSILANTI, MI – The University at Buffalo men's and women's swimming and diving teams were both defeated by Eastern Michigan Friday night in Mid-American Conference competition at Jones Natatorium. The UB men fell to the Eagles by a score of 180-116 while the UB women were defeated 165-129. The UB women (2-2, 1-2 MAC) were buoyed by a pair of individual victories apiece by freshman Brynn Marecki and junior Meili Carpenter.
Marecki swept the breaststroke races for the Bulls. She won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:04.26 and later took the 200-yard distance in 2:19.76. Carpenter took both diving events with a posting of 281.68 points on the one-meter board and 262.35 points on the three-meter board for her six-dive routines in both events. Also picking up victories for the UB women were Jessie Koltz in the 50-yard freestyle in 24.30 and Jessica Ballard in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:08.45
Leading the UB men (0-2, 0-1 MAC) was senior Zach Ruske. Ruske won two events with victories in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:52.73 and the 200-yard individual medley in 1:55.30. Connor Vander Zalm won the 1,650-yard freestyle in 16:25.86 as the only Bull in the race, finishing ahead of four EMU swimmers. Jake Sangren won the 100-yard backstroke in 51.43 while on the diving board, Michael McDowell took first place in the one-meter event with a total score of 306.15. The Bulls travel to Muncie, IN for MAC meets at Ball State starting at 1:00 pm.
