Buffalo Falls to Miami in MAC Opener Freshman Brynn Marecki sets new school record in 100 breaststroke BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women’s swimming and diving team lost to Miami Friday night, 170-130, at Alumni Arena Natatorium. The Bulls now stand 1-1 (0-1 MAC), while Miami improved to 3-1 (1-0 MAC).
The Bulls started out strong, placing first in the first two events, the 200 medley relay and the 1000 freestyle. Jordan Deren finished the 1000 freestyle nearly 10 seconds ahead of the pack in a time of 10:25.70. Freshman Brynn Marecki set a new school record in the 100 breaststroke, finishing in 1:04.54, bettering the old time, 1:04.63, set in 2005. Marecki also placed first in the 200 breaststroke, and fell short of first place by a second in the 400 IM (4:31.72). Jessie Koltz also gave the Bulls a first place win, taking the 50 freestyle in 23.95. Meili Carpenter swept the diving events, scoring well above the competition, with a one-meter score of 281.10, and a three-meter score of 295.13.
The women’s team continues conference competition as they host Ohio University tomorrow afternoon. The meet is set for 1:00 pm at Alumni Arena Natatorium. The men’s first conference meet is Friday, November 7 at 5:00 pm when they travel to Eastern Michigan.
