Carpenter and McDowell Qualify for NCAA Meet Platform diving concludes NCAA Zone A Meet Women's Platform Results BUFFALO, NY- The third and final day of the 2009 Zone A Diving Championships wrapped up Sunday afternoon at the University at Buffalo's Alumni Arena Natatorium. The men's and women's platform events were contested this afternoon. Buffalo divers Meili Carpenter and Michael McDowell qualified for the NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships with their performances in today's events. Carpenter finished first overall, while McDowell finished second in their respective events.
After the preliminary round, Carpenter led the women with a five-dive score of 252.35. McDowell was in second place after the men's preliminary round, finishing six dives with a score of 306.65. Both divers held on to their places after the final round. Carpenter finished first overall with a ten-dive total of 488.75. McDowell ended the meet in second place with a total score of 600.20 points, finishing just behind Navy's Jonathan Galinski with 613.25. This is the second consecutive year that both Carpenter and McDowell have made the NCAA meet.
The women's NCAA meet is next weekend, March 19-21 in College Station, TX. The men's meet will be March 26-28 in College Station, TX.
