Bulls Start Day Two with Another Relay Record Swimmers stand in sixth place at MAC championships BOWLING GREEN, OH- Thursday was another record-setting day for the University at Buffalo women’s swimming and diving team as they completed day two of the MAC Championships in Bowling Green, Ohio. The Bulls 200-yard freestyle relay set a new school record and many individual swimmers finished with lifetime-best times.
The 200-yard freestyle relay of Jessie Koltz, Sam Palma, Catherine Scharf and Sam Eckert finished in sixth place with a time of 1:33.83, bettering the record set last season of 1:34.52. Distance specialist Jordan Deren swam to a lifetime-best 4:55.07 in the 500 freestyle, finishing in ninth place, while teammate Alie Schirmers earned a 16th-place finish with a time of 4:58.90. Jessica Ballard swam to a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard IM with a lifetime-best, 2:02.40 and Brynn Marecki finished in 14th with a time of 2:05.59 in the same event. Two members of the record-breaking relay team earned championship points in the 50-yard freestyle as Koltz and Palma finished in 15th (23.77) and 16th (24.35), respectively.
In diving, Meili Carpenter finished the day with 280.05 points, good enough for second place in the one-meter event. Ursula Jeske dove to an 18th-place finish with a one-meter score of 192.70. Akron’s Katie Carter took the gold in today’s diving event. Buffalo ends day two in sixth place with 137 points. Toledo leads the way with 234 points. Competition continues through Saturday.
