Meili Carpenter Wins MAC Championship in One-Meter

Simmons breaks 10-year old 50 freestyle record
OXFORD, OH - The University at Buffalo
women’s swimming and diving team finished day two of the
Mid-American Conference Championships. Senior diver Meili
Carpenter won the MAC Championship in the one-meter diving event,
finishing with a score of 301.45.

UB’s 200 freestyle relay team started the night in impressive
fashion, as Jessie
Koltz, Sam
Palma, Karly
Moore and Caroline
Simmons broke a school record and picked up fifth-place points in a
time of 1:32.92, bettering the old record of 1:33.83 set last season. Jordan
Deren kicked off the individual events with an eighth-place finish
and lifetime best in the 500 freestyle, finishing in a time of
4:53.82, two seconds better than her previous lifetime best and nearly
10 seconds better than her best time of the season.
Caroline Simmons
Simmons broke a 10-year old school record and finished second in
the 50 freestyle in a lifetime best time of 22.86. She bettered the
previous school record of 23.18, set in 2000. Koltz also swam a
lifetime best time in the 50 freestyle, finishing 11th in a time of
23.29. Alie
Schirmers had an impressive fourth-place finish in the 200 IM,
swimming to a lifetime best time of 2:03.24. Brynn
Marecki swam in the consolation final of the 200 IM, finishing 14th
in a time of 2:06.02.
Carpenter finished off a perfect season in the one-meter diving
event, winning the MAC Championship with a score of 301.45. Carpenter
was the only diver to finish with over 300 points.
The Bulls end day two in fifth place with 156 points. Toledo
continues to lead the way with 260 points. Competition continues
through Saturday.
