Bulls Complete Day One Of MAC Champs

Competition continues through Saturday

OXFORD, OH- The University at Buffalo women’s swimming and diving team kicked off the 2010 Mid-American Conference Championship meet tonight at the Nixon Aquatic Center on the campus of Miami University.

The Bulls went into the opening event, the 200 medley relay, as the defending MAC champions. This year, the foursome of Jessica Ballard, Brynn Marecki, Jessie Koltz and Caroline Simmons finished fourth in a season-best time of 1:40.82. Less than a second separated first and fourth place, as the first-place team from Toledo finished in a time of 1:40.20.

The 800 freestyle relay of Ballard, Jordan Deren, Alie Schirmers and Logan Mason finished seventh in a time of 7:30.66, dropping nearly 17 seconds off their best time of the season. The time was less than three-tenths of a second off the school record, set last year at the MAC Championship meet.

After one day of competition the Bulls sit in fifth place with 54 points. Toledo leads the pack after day one, collecting a total of 80 points. Competition continues through Saturday.
