Men’s Swimming Continues Record Breaking Weekend Zach Ruske breaks 200 IM record; UB foursome sets new 200 freestyle relay record NASHVILLE, TN – The second night of competition in the Sun Belt/MAC Championships concluded Thursday night with the University at Buffalo picking up championship and bonus points in multiple events, as well as setting a school relay record for the second night in a row. Zach Ruske broke the first individual record in the preliminary round of the 200 IM (1:51.06), bettering his own record set last season.
The 200 freestyle relay of Simon Proudfoot, Chad Miller, Kevin Schuster and Jared Heine swam a fast 1:22.33, not only earning a fifth-place overall finish and a second-place MAC finish, but also breaking the school record set in 1992. Ruske was the MAC runner-up in the 200 IM, earning 10th overall. Chris Berloth earned bonus points in the 200 IM with a 22nd overall finish and a fourth-place MAC finish, swimming a lifetime-best, 1:53.48. In the 50 freestyle, Heine tied for 10th overall (20.64), and Proudfoot (21.08) finished 23rd overall.
UB stands seventh overall and third among MAC schools in the team standings with 226 points. Denver leads the overall race with 447 points, while Eastern Michigan leads the MAC schools in third place with 366 points. Miami is fifth place with 260 and Ball State follows in ninth place with 170 points at the completion of day two. Competition continues through Saturday.
