UB Swimming Weekly ReleaseClick here for a PDF version of the release Bulls Split Weekend Meets The University at Buffalo women's swimming and diving team finished up their regular season schedule on the road last weekend, swimming against Bowling Green and Youngstown State in a combined meet Friday night, then continuing on to compete against Toledo on Saturday afternoon. The Bulls defeated Bowling Green, 153.5-145.5 and Youngstown State 222-74, but lost to Toledo, 189-103 to finish their season at 9-3 (4-3 MAC). Despite the loss, Buffalo finishes the season with their best conference record since joining the Mid-American Conference in 1998.
Jordan Deren won the first individual event for the Bulls, placing first in the 1000 freestyle (10:27.53). Jessica Ballard won her first event in the 100 backstroke, swimming to a time of 58.92. Ballard also placed first in the 200 IM with a season-best time, 2:06.68. Breaststroke specialist Brynn Marecki placed first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.21, and then took first place in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:22.55. Jessie Koltz picked up points for Buffalo, placing first in the 50 freestyle (24.50). Deren won her second event of the night in the 500 freestyle, taking first in a time of 5:08.41. Diving was highlighted by a 1-2 finish in the one-meter event, as Meili Carpenter took first (330.40) and Ursula Jeske took second (247.60). The three-meter event ended similarly as Carpenter finished first with 263.35 points, while Jeske tied for second with Bowling Green's Molly Wood, scoring 230.15.
The meet against Toledo was highlighted by a first-place finish from Koltz in the 50 freestyle, finishing in a time of 24.23. Koltz also picked up second-place points in the 100 butterfly, swimming to a time of 58.57. Sorg collected points for the Bulls, placing second in both the 100 backstroke (59.36) and the 200 backstroke (2:09.05). Carpenter took second in the one-meter diving event (274.35) as well as on the three-meter board (261.08), finishing just tenths behind Toledo's Brittany Teneyck. Toledo won both the 200 freestyle relay and the 200 medley relay, but not without a good fight from the Bulls, as Buffalo was just touched-out for second place in both events. Up Next The Bulls will take the next three weeks off from competition to prepare for the MAC Championship meet, being held in Bowling Green, Ohio beginning on February 25.
