Connor Vander Zalm Named MAC Swimmer of the Week

UB men’s distance freestyler earns conference award following win over St. Bonaventure

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo junior Connor Vander Zalm earned the Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week Award based on his performance against St. Bonaventure last weekend as the Bulls defeated the Bonnies, 131-111. He shares the honor with Eastern Michigan’s Derick Roe.

Vander Zalm won two events to help Buffalo win its final dual meet of the season. He swept the distance events, scoring a first-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:51.60), as well as the 500-yard freestyle (4:42.49). Not only was it Buffalo’s first win against St. Bonaventure since 2000, but also the first time the men have finished their season with a dual-meet record above .500 since 2000.

With the men’s regular season complete, they will take the next three weeks to prepare for the MAC/Sun Belt Championship meet, starting on February 16 in Nashville, TN.
