James Carey joins the Bulls for the 2009-2010 season as he is set to
begin his first season as the graduate assistant for the
men’s and women’s swimming programs.
Carey, who enrolled in the Higher Education Administration graduate
program at UB, joined the Bulls after a two-year swimming career with
Ohio University before the men’s team was eliminated in
2007. In his last year with the team, Carey won the
Tad Potter award for sportsmanship. Carey stayed active in the Ohio
University swimming scene, coaching master’s swimming for two
years as well as being a student assistant for the women’s
team throughout the 2008-2009 season.
Carey graduated from Ohio in June of 2009 with a degree in Recreation
Studies. Originally from Cincinnati, OH, Carey now resides in
Cheektowaga, NY.
“We are excited to have James join our coaching
staff,” said head coach Andy Bashor upon Carey’s
hiring. “His love of the sport and his enthusiasm in helping
the student athlete achieve great things will help us in our goal of
winning conference championships.”
