Athletic Training

Athletic Trainer

The UB Athletic Training staff, under the direction of head athletic trainer Sue Rocque, includes six full-time certified athletic trainers, two graduate assistant athletic trainers and appoximately 15 athletic training students who work with all of UB’s intercollegiate student-athletes on a daily basis. Their primary responsibilities are the prevention, care and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses sustained during intercollegiate practices and games. The athletic training staff works in conjuction with the team physicians from University Sports Medicine and oversees the complete health care needs of UB’s student-athletes.

    University Sports Medicine

    The University at Buffalo Sports Medicine Institute is a state-of-the-art facility developed by the School of Medicine and the Department of Orthopaedics to provide immediate and comprehensive medical care for sports-related injuries. Conveniently located on the University at Buffalo’s South Campus, the Sports Medicine Institute is experienced in treating problems resulting from organized athletics, recreational sports and work-related injuries. The spectrum of its patients includes recreational athletes, scholastic athletes and “industrial” athletes. Its university affiliation places the Sports Medicine Institute in the forefront of advances in sports medicine and provides the community, athlete and non-athlete alike with state-of-the-art medical care. The Sports Medicine staff is a team of physicians, physical therapists and athletic trainers with extensive sports medicine training. Its team includes specialists in surgery, sports-related medical problems and fracture care. A support staff of rehabilitation and consulting professionals helps to ensure commitment to immediate evaluation and treatment. Its goal is to quickly and safely return the athlete to his/her sport. The Sports Medicine Institute is the only facility in Western New York for immediate and specialized care, comprehensive treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and athletic medical problems by sports medicine-trained physicians and skilled, experienced therapists in a university setting.
