Student-Athlete Development/CHAMPS Life Skills

Community Service

Habitat for Humanity photo The student-athletes at the University at Buffalo participate regularly in outreach activities throughout the Western New York community. On a team and individual basis, student-athletes are involved in programs that allow for "giving back" in community based settings, educational settings, healthcare centers, and other areas. The UB student-athletes take great pride in their commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others.

Linda Yalem Safety Run
The annual Linda Yalem Safety Run is a 5k run/walk held at the University at Buffalo's North Campus to promote runner and walker safety. Now in its 17th year, the Yalem Run is one of the most popular races in Western New York, and is a qualifying race for the Buffalo News "Runner of the Year" series. Each year, UB welcomes over 1,000 runners, walkers and supporters who believe in the importance of taking control over our own personal safety, and to remember Linda Yalem, a UB student who was raped and murdered while running near UB in 1990. UB student-athletes from many of our teams participate and volunteer in this event each year!
