The University at Buffalo offers a wide range of housing options. The Division of
Athletics works closely with the University Residents Halls and Apartments to
coordinate the housing needs of our student-athletes.
- What is the difference between North and South Campus?
South Campus:
Many new students will be assigned housing on the South Campus. Located in North
Buffalo, bordering the suburb of Amherst, the South Campus is convenient to school and
city transportation lines. Just across the street is a large shopping plaza with a
small theater, a supermarket, restaurants, retail stores, and a range of other services.
Within walking distance is a smorgasbord of eateries--from the conservative to the
exotic--as well as stores, banks, and businesses to meet every taste.
There are six residence facilities on the South Campus: Clement, Goodyear, MacDonald,
Michael, Pritchard, and Schoellkopf Halls. Clement and Goodyear are twin high-rise
buildings connected by a service area. Each houses 480 students in suite arrangements.
The suites, two double rooms connected by a bath, make it possible for each floor to be
coeducational by alternating suites. Floor lounges with kitchens are provided.
MacDonald, Michael, Pritchard, and Schoellkopf are four-story residence halls, each
housing 75-150 students in large single and double rooms. Each floor is divided into
two wings with centrally located baths. All South Campus residence hall rooms have
campus cable, including our own movie channel, Ethernet data ports, and campus phone
connections. Campus bus service provides transportation between the North and South
Campuses.
North Campus:
The North Campus is located three miles from the South Campus in suburban Amherst.
Nearby is a busy commercial district with a wide variety of stores, restaurants, movie
theaters, banks, and other services. Campus buses transport students from the residence
halls to the academic spine area of the North Campus. The North Campus has two housing
clusters: the Governors Complex and the Joseph Ellicott Complex. Governors houses 825
students in semi-suites. Each suite, which consists of four double rooms, a bath, and a
lounge, is coeducational by alternating suites. The Ellicott Complex is divided into
six quadrangles, each housing approximately 550 students, with living areas that are
coeducational by alternating sections. Each section has rooms ranging from single to
four-person occupancy, and features centrally located baths and floor lounges that
include snack preparation facilities. Campus cable, including our own movie channel,
Ethernet data connections, and campus phone ports are provided to each room.
- What are the rates for the different sized rooms & apartments?
You can find information regarding semester and yearly rates on all the rooms. The
rates differ by the size of the room not by campus or dormitory.

- What day can I move into my permanent room assignment?
This information can be found at the following link as the dates change every fall
semester.
www.ub-housing.buffalo.edu/dates.shtml
- If I am here for preseason will that be my permanent room?
No, your preseason housing is for the appointed preseason period. Once that period
is expired then you will have the opportunity to move into your permanent housing
assignment.
- Where do I park if I live in the residence halls?
All residence hall students can park in the residence hall lots. However, all
freshman residence hall students are prohibited from parking along the academic spine
between 7am - 3pm. They will be allowed to park in park and ride lots:
The Park and Ride Lots are:
North Campus: Arena, Alumni, Center for Tomorrow, Stadium and Special Events
lot
South Campus: Main-Bailey and Parker
Upper-classmen living in the residence halls can still park along the academic spine.
The freshman will make use of UB's transportation systems. There will be guides during
the first few weeks of school in parking lots and on buses to help students get used
to using our functional bus services.

schedules?

- Do I have to get my own telephone hooked up?
No, dial tone service is provided for each room; however, you must bring your own
touch-tone phone. Students are issued an individual access code to dial off campus/long
distance, and these charges are billed monthly to each student.
- What about mail? Where do I get it?
Students in the residence halls may receive mail in the hall/quad that they live in.
In most cases, roommates will share one mailbox. Mailboxes are located in a central
area. In Ellicott, they are located on the 2nd floor of building 4 in all quads. In
Governors, mailboxes can be found in the main lobbies. On South Campus, mailboxes for
Clement and Goodyear are in the basement hallway connecting the two halls. Pritchard,
Schoellkopf and Mac Donald mailboxes are on the first floor next to each main entrance.
- What if I get a package? Where does it go?
Oversized and signature mail (Fed Ex, UPS…) can be picked up in a central location
for each area of campus. Students receive a notice in their respective mailbox that a
package has been accepted on their behalf. Please bring Student ID when claiming a
package.
- How do I communicate emergencies?
If you need to report an emergency or need medical assistance call University
Police at 716-645-2222. "9-1-1" will not respond to on campus calls and will
refer you to 2222 which may increase the waiting period for whatever emergency there
may be.
