Softball Hires Assistant CoachesBUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo head softball coach Marie Curran has announced the addition of two assistant coaches to her staff, Shannon Salsburg and Jaclyn Beavers. Salsburg comes to Buffalo from The University of Akron where she was a graduate assistant coach during the 1999 and 2000 seasons, assisting the Zips with recruiting and implementing a strength and conditioning program in addition to her on-the-field coaching duties. Salsburg has also coached at various softball clinics, including the Penn State University clinic, the Kent State clinic and the Cleveland Indians clinic. Salsburg enjoyed a successful career at Penn State where she was a four-year starter at first base and a three-year captain. She concluded her career with school records of 34 home runs, 118 runs batted in, 172 hits and 99 walks. Her 34 career home runs ranks 19th all-time in NCAA history. Salsburg was a two-time All-Big Ten second-team selection, and she was a member of the All-Great Lakes Region first team as a freshman. A native of Navarre, OH, Salsburg earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Penn State in 1998 and a master's degree in sports science from Akron in May of 2000. While she was at Penn State, she was a two-time GTE Academic All-American and a three-time member of the Big Ten All-Academic team. Beavers completed her four-year playing career in May at the University of Tennessee where she was the Lady Vols' top pitcher. As a senior captain, Beavers posted a team-leading 2.50 earned run average and 111 strikeouts in 37 games. She holds numerous Lady Vols' career records, including wins (76) and ERA (1.84). Beavers' career numbers also include 335 strikeouts, 92 complete games and 25 solo shutouts. The highlight of her career was a complete game no-hitter against Chattanooga on April 20, 1999, only the second no-hitter in UT softball history. Beavers also strung together 10 consecutive wins and 23.2 consecutive scoreless innings during the 1999 season. A native of Warren, OH, Beavers was an honorable mention All-Region selection as a
freshman in 1996 when she had 24 wins and a 1.33 ERA, both among the top 10 in the nation. An SEC
Academic and Lady Vols' honor roll member, she earned her bachelor's degree in academic psychology in 1999 and
is currently pursuing a master's degree in human performance and sport studies from Tennessee. She
has gained coaching experience working at a variety of softball camps, including the Lady Vols'
softball camp and the Alabama at Birmingham pitching clinic. |
