Three Bulls Named to MAC Academic Honor RollBUFFALO, NY - Three members of the University at Buffalo softball team were named to the Mid-American Conference's 2001 Softball Honor Roll, as announced by the league office. Senior Stacee Madden (Corning, NY/Allegheny College) and sophomores Lisa Cox (Getzville, NY/Williamsville North) and Laura Gilcrist (Getzville, NY/Williamsville North) all received recognition from the MAC for their academic and athletic performance. Student-athletes must obtain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00, earn a varsity letter for the current season and have attended the institution for a full year to be eligible for the honor. Madden was a consistent presence in the outfield for the Bulls in 2000-01, appearing in 40 games and starting in 38 of those while battling pain from a torn rotator's cuff in her throwing shoulder for the majority of the year. Cox appeared in 25 games on the year, starting 20, and she drove in four runs and had eight hits. Gilcrist started 33 of the 38 games she played in, and she had 15 hits and a team-high four stolen bases during the year. An outfielder, she also posted a .970 fielding percentage. The Bulls finished the 2001 season, their first competing in the Mid-American Conference, with a 12-40 overall record and a 4-20 conference mark. |
