Nasti Named ECAC Softball All-Star

Freshman Earns Honorable Mention Recognition

Breanne Nasti
BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo softball player Breanne Nasti (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) was named a 2001 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division I Softball Honorable Mention All-Star, as announced by the conference office on Friday, June 1. Buffalo is an independent member of the ECAC, and Nasti was chosen as the utility player on the 13-player honorable mention squad by ECAC Division I head coaches, who selected the all-stars from other independent nominations and from among the first-team all-conference selections of ECAC-member conferences.

Nasti led the Bulls and the Mid-American Conference with a .373 batting average during her freshman campaign while setting UB single-season records for runs batted in (43), hits (59), doubles (18) and home runs (10). Her 18 doubles, 10 home runs and 43 RBIs are also UB career records, and her 59 hits on the year tied the school career mark. Nasti also posted a .690 slugging percentage and a .435 on-base percentage, both tops on the team. Nasti had 16 multiple-hit games during the year, and she drove in a season-high nine runs in a 13-2 Buffalo win over IUPUI on March 18, going 4-for-5 from the plate with three doubles and a home run. She also turned in a 4-for-4 performance with two doubles, two home runs and seven RBIs against Texas Southern on February 9. Defensively, the left-handed Nasti saw time in her natural position in center field during the first half of the season and at shortstop in the last half of the season, finishing the year with a .908 fielding percentage.

Nasti, Buffalo's Newcomer of the Year, was also named as the utility player on the 2001 National Fastpitch Coaches Association/Louisville Slugger Mideast Region Second Team.
