Bulls Place Three on Academic All-MAC Softball Team
Seniors Stacey Evans, Ann Magur and Melissa Pace earn scholar-athlete recognition
BUFFALO, NY - Three University at Buffalo softball players have been named to the 2005
Academic All-Mid-American Conference Softball Team, as announced today by the league office. Seniors
Stacey Evans (Collinsville,
IL/Triad), Ann Magur (Endicott,
NY/Union-Endicott/Connecticut) and
Melissa Pace (Long Beach,
CA/Millikan) were selected to the 19-person team, as chosen by the faculty
athletic representatives at the 13 MAC schools. The Bulls tied Bowling Green for the most student-athletes
honored with three selections each.
 | | Stacey Evans | Evans holds virtually every school single-season and career pitching record, and she finished
her four-year career with 42 wins, 22 shutouts, 536 strikeouts and a 1.94 earned run average. Evans
recorded her 500th career strikeout in the second inning of a 9-0 shutout at Youngstown State on April 21, and
she recorded at least 100 strikeouts in each season of her four-year career. Evans tied her career high, also
the UB single-game record, with 12 strikeouts twice in 2005, against Pittsburgh on March 12 and
against Niagara on May 3. She finished the 2005 season with 12 wins, five shutouts, two saves, 120 strikeouts
and a 2.20 ERA. Evans is a three-time selection to the Academic All-MAC Team. She is a business
administration major with a 3.576 grade point average.
 | | Ann Magur | Magur led the Bulls with a .252 batting average, ranked second on the team with 30 hits and
tied for third on the team with 13 RBIs in 2005. She drove in the game-winning run in a 2-0 win over
then league-leading Central Michigan on April 20 and was 4-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and five
RBIs in a 9-0 win at Eastern Michigan on March 30. She finished her four-year career with a .284
batting average, 144 hits, 31 doubles, 10 home runs and 62 RBIs. Magur carries a 3.575 grade point average
and is enrolled in UB's MBA program. She was also an Academic All-MAC honoree in 2003.
 | | Melissa Pace | Pace set a UB single-season record with 318 putouts at first base, and she committed just
three errors in 348 chances in the field for a team-high .991 fielding percentage this past season. Pace
was named MAC East Player of the Week for the first time in her career on May 9 after hitting three-run
home runs in each game of a doubleheader sweep of Ohio on May 7 to help the Bulls clinch their first-ever
MAC Tournament appearance. She finished her four-year career with a .211 batting average, 87 hits, 12
doubles, four home runs and six RBIs. Pace is a psychology and communication double major with a 3.567 GPA.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for student-athletes who have excelled in both athletics
and academics. To qualify, a student must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have
participated in at least 50 percent of her team's contests. First-year students and junior college transfers
in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. The number of honorees on the Academic
All-MAC Team is the number that is set for the specific sport or 33 percent of the number of nominees,
whichever is greater.
The Bulls finished the 2005 season with a 22-28 overall record after making their first-ever
Division I postseason appearance at the MAC Tournament. They finished the conference season with an
11-8 mark, good for third place in the East Division and fifth place overall in the league's standings, their
best finish ever.
