BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo sophomore Breanne Nasti (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) was named to the 2002 All-Mideast Region First Team, as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association this morning. Nasti was one of three outfielders named to the 12-player first team after setting a UB and a Mid-American Conference record with a .451 batting average in 2002. That average currently ranks sixth in the nation in Division I according to the NCAA's most recent statistics report (through games of Sunday, May 12).

Nasti finished her sophomore campaign with 51 hits, nine doubles, four triples, seven home runs, a .788 slugging percentage, 26 runs scored and 25 runs batted in. In MAC games only, she hit .486 with 36 hits, eight doubles, two triples, six home runs, an .892 slugging percentage, 17 runs scored and 21 RBIs. She had a team-high 18 multiple-hit games and seven multiple-RBI games during the year, and she ended the year hitting safely in 16 of her last 17 games, hitting .500 during that stretch (29-for-58) and stringing together a 14-game hitting streak from April 14 to May 1. Nasti was named MAC East Player of the Week twice during the year. She currently holds UB records for single-season and career hits, doubles, home runs and RBIs, and her current .406 career batting average ranks No. 1 on the MAC's career list. In addition to being named the team's Most Valuable Player in 2002, Nasti was also named to the All-MAC First Team and to the Verizon Academic All-District I Second Team, as selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).

Nasti was named to the All-Mideast Region Second Team last season as a utility player. The Bulls have now had a player earn All-Region honors in each of the past three years, with junior Jennifer Moore (Williamsville, NY/Delhi (Ont.) District) being the first to do so in 2000. Moore was chosen as the designated player on the Northeast Region Second Team in Buffalo's first season of Division I softball competition. The Bulls competed as an independent in the Northeast Region in 2000 but moved to the Mideast Region beginning with the 2001 season, their first competing in softball in the MAC.

Nasti is the lone member of the MAC to earn All-Mideast Region First Team honors in 2002. Ball State shortstop Katie Shea, the MAC Player of the Year, and Marshall second baseman Nichole Corrigan were both named to the All-Mideast Region Second Team.

Nasti and the other members of each All-Region first and second teams are now eligible for All-America honors, which will be voted on by an All-American selection committee on Monday, May 20.
