Zilka Named To MAC All-Freshman Team
Zilka led the Bulls with a .303 batting average this past season and also smacked a team-high seven home runs on the year. The seven long balls tie her for third all-time on the single-season record list and her batting average is the highest for a UB player since the 2004 season. Zilka had three three-hit performances during the year, including a 3-for-4 day against Miami in the final game of the season, raising her batting average 12 points and over the .300 mark to finish the year. "It's great to see the conference recognize the season that Erin just completed," said head coach Marie Curran. "Erin looked very comfortable in the outfield and the batter's box this past year and we look forward to watching her continue to develop in her career." Zilka, who missed six games due to injury earlier in the season, finished off the year with RBIs in five of the last seven games, including two in games against Syracuse and Miami. This marks the second straight year that the MAC has honored a UB freshman with a postseason award. Last year, Marcy Hansen (Claremont, CA/Claremont) was an at-large selection on the All-MAC second team. Zilka joins nine other members on the team. They are: Julie Boyes and Jamie Stanclift from Akron, Hayley Wiemer and Desiree Miller from Bowling Green, Ali Pettit of Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan's Heather Han, Randi Kreiter of Northern Illinois, Alison Hess from Toledo and Western Michigan's Mandi Sayres and Lauren Fuller. |
