Marcy Hansen Named to All-MAC Second Team

Freshman led the Bulls with a .333 batting average in MAC games

BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo freshman Marcy Hansen (Claremont, CA/Claremont) has been named to the All-Mid-American Conference Second Team, as chosen by the league's head coaches and announced tonight at the league's awards banquet in Akron, OH prior to the start of the 2005 MAC Softball Tournament.

Hansen was an at-large selection to the second team after leading the Bulls with a .333 batting average (12-for-36) and a .400 on base percentage in conference games during the regular season. Hansen had a squeeze bunt that allowed both runs to score in a 2-1 win at Northern Illinois on April 16 and led the Bulls with a 4-for-8 performance in their three-game series at Bowling Green on April 30 and May 1. She hit safely in 11 of the last 14 games of the regular season, batting .410 (16-for-39) during that stretch to raise her season average to .241. Hansen had a team-high 13 sacrifice bunts during the regular season and tied for second on the team with 12 stolen bases. She had three steals in a 7-0 shutout of St. Bonaventure on April 27 to tie the UB single-game record. She has a .974 fielding percentage at second base.

Hansen is Buffalo's fourth All-MAC honoree in the last four years. She joins Breanne Nasti (2004) and senior Ann Magur (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott/Connecticut) (2002) as the Bulls' all-time All-MAC Second Team honorees. Nasti (2002, 2003) and senior Stacey Evans (Collinsville, IL/Triad) (2004) are UB's two All-MAC First Team honorees.

Hansen and the Bulls will make their first-ever appearance at the MAC Tournament on Wednesday at Firestone Stadium in Akron, OH. The Bulls (21-26 overall, 11-8 MAC) are the fifth seed and will take on fourth-seeded Western Michigan at 5 pm. The double-elimination tournament continues through Saturday with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the 2005 NCAA Division I Softball Championship.
