BUFFALO, NY - Head coach Marie Curran announced the award winners for the 2006 season. Senior Lauren Picciano (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) was named Most Outstanding Player, while freshman Erin Zilka (Benicia, CA/Benicia) was named Top Newcomer. Freshman Jennifer Biernacki (Medina, NY/Medina) received the Coaches' Award and freshman Dana Carter (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) was named Most Improved Player.

Despite playing in just 35 games this past season, Picciano, the team's shortstop, served as the emotional and inspirational leader during the 2006 season. Picciano hit her first career home run early in the season against St. John's. In her final week of action, Picciano hit .429 with a triple and a run batted in. She will add this award to the team's top newcomer award, which she won following the 2003 season.

Zilka led the Bulls with a .303 batting average and seven home runs, while finished second on the team with 23 RBIs. The freshman outfielder went a perfect 6-for-6 on stolen base attempts and always served as an offensive threat anytime she stepped to the plate.

Biernacki joined the Bulls as a walk-on prior to the season and showed signs of improvement through out the year. Biernacki picked up her first collegiate victory, pitching a five-hit shutout against Ohio. She finished second on the team with 40 strikeouts in 66.0 innings. Biernacki also played two games in right field and appeared nine times as a pinch runner.

Carter is another member of the Buffalo squad that played numerous positions through the season. Recruited primarily as a first baseman, Carter has also played in the outfield and even made five appearances in the pitcher's circle. Carter started two games, picking up a win against Harvard. In that contest, Carter pitched the complete game for the Bulls.
