Bulls Defeat Miami in Season Finale, 4-2BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo softball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the visiting Miami RedHawks by a 4-2 score in the 2002 season finale this afternoon at the UB Softball Stadium.
A two-run home run by Miami's (16-37, 7-16 MAC) Angie Gerber opened the scoring in the top of the third inning, but the Bulls quickly responded with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good. A triple by Nasti drove in freshman Melissa Pace (Long Beach, CA/Millikan) with the first run, and freshman Ann Marie Magur (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott/Connecticut) followed with a two-run home run to center field, her fifth of the season. The Bulls added one more run in the fifth on a double by Magur that drove in Melissa Pace. Magur went 2-for-3 with three RBIs on the afternoon, and Melissa Pace was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Miami pitcher Jackie Poggendorf suffered her second loss of the weekend, giving up 10 hits and striking out five. The Bulls end the 2002 campaign with a 13-25 overall record and an 8-16 record in the
Mid-American Conference. They ended the year by winning four of their last five games and eight of
their last 13. |
