Softball Takes On RedHawks

Bulls collide with hardhitting Miami squad

OXFORD, OH – Playing its second-to-last Mid-American Conference opponent of the season, the University at Buffalo Bulls softball team traveled to Oxford, OH to take on the Miami University RedHawks in a league doubleheader on Friday afternoon.

A potent Miami offense stymmied the Bulls, however, as Buffalo came up on the short end of the stick twice, dropping the day’s opening game 15-0 and later falling in the nightcap, 9-0.

After surrendering nine runs to the RedHawks in the bottom of the first inning, UB was never quite able to close in on Miami’s lead, with the game’s final ending 15-0 in the RedHawks favor. Junior shortstop Marcy Hansen (Claremont, CA/Claremont) had a productive game in the batter’s box, as she collected both of Buffalo’s hits in the game.

The Bulls played Miami much tighter in game two, holding the RedHawks scoreless through two innings and allowing Miami one in the bottom of the third. After a scoreless fourth, the RedHawks expanded their 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the fifth, putting eight on the board to take the 9-0 victory.

Sharon Barr (Coarsegold, CA/Yosemite Union), Jaime Sheffler (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango Central) and Dana Carter (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) all finished 1-for-2 in the game.

The Bulls are now set to face Ball State in single games on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s game is set for 2:00 pm while Sunday’s game will commence at 1:00 pm.
