Kent State Completes Sweep Of BuffaloKENT, OH - Brittany Robinson continued where she left off yesterday, striking out 14 Buffalo batters as Kent State completed the two-game sweep with a 8-0 victory, Sunday afternoon at Kent State Field. The loss drops the Bulls to 12-39 on the year and 2-14 in conference play. Today's game also marks the end of a 14-game road trip for the Bulls, who will now be home for six of their final eight games.
Robinson was able to retire 14 Bulls via the strikeout, meaning all but four outs in the game were from Robinson strikeouts. Marcy Hansen (Claremont, CA/Claremont) was the only Buffalo batter who had success during the weekend, going 2-for-3 in the game. In the series opener, Hansen went 2-for-4. After putting up two runs in the second inning, the Golden Flashes broke the game open with a five-run third inning. Kent State would end the game in the bottom of the sixth as Kim Hamilton hit a home run, giving the Golden Flashes the victory because of the run rule.
Margo Schramm (Phoenix, AZ/Catalina Foothills/Iowa Lakes CC) started the game for the Bulls, but worked just 3.0 innings, allowing eight hits and seven runs, only five of those earned. Schramm walked just one and struck out one Kent State batter. Jennifer Biernacki (Medina, NY/Medina) came on in relief, allowing just two hits, one of those being Hamilton's home run. Biernacki walked none and struck out two. Robinson pitched the complete game, scattering just three hits and walking none, going on to win her 22nd game of the season. The Bulls return home as they host Niagara in a doubleheader on Tuesday, May 2. First pitch is set for 3:00 pm. |
