Bulls Fall In Pair To Albany

UB swept in softball by Great Danes

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo dropped a doubleheader Saturday afternoon to the University at Albany 5-4 and 12-2 in women's softball action at the UB Softball Stadium.

In the opener, Stacy Kowal knocked in the winning run with a bases loaded sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning scoring Kara Faraone.

UB scored three runs in the top of the first highlighted by RBI singles by Jennifer Moore (Williamsville, NY/Delhi District) and Stacee Madden (Corning, NY/East). Albany picked up a run in the second and took the lead in the third Valerie Terry hit a two-run homer and Stephanie Strauss hit a solo blast. Albany also had a home run taken away as Kowal was touched by a teammate before reaching home plate and was subsequently ruled out.

The Bulls tied the contest in the fifth as Danielle Haynes (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) came around to scored as Terry allowed the ball to get through her legs.

In the nightcap, the Great Danes erupted for three runs in the first on Kowal's bases loaded double. Albany also cashed in with two in the second, three in the fourth and four in the fifth. The Bulls scored single runs in the second and third innings. A double to right by Jessica Kensy (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) scored Kim Lawrence (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) while Moore accounted for the other RBI with a double scoring Lisa Cox (Getzville, NY/Williamsville North) in the third.

The Bulls fall to 5-33 while Albany improves to 27-8. UB travels to Ithaca tomorrow for a doubleheader with Cornell starting at noon.
