Gallipani Earns Conference, School Honors

Buffalo outfielder Kristen Gallipani (Brewster, NY/Brewster) was named the Mid-American Conference East Athlete of the Week on 4/22 as well as UB’s female athlete of the week, on 4/21.

Gallipani earned the honors after finished the week of 4/14 with a .412 batting average (7-for-17) with seven RBIs, four homeruns and a 1.118 slugging percentage. She went deep twice in the Bulls’ 6-0 win over St. Bonaventure, inking four RBIs while also securing Buffalo’s 4-3 extra-inning victory over Ball State on 4/19, stroking a first-pitch walk-off homerun. In addition, Gallipani chalked UB’s only RBI vs. a strong Miami (OH) squad, hitting a solo homerun against the RedHawks on 4/18.

Buffalo Stymied By Regional-Rival Niagara

The University at Buffalo softball team took on the Niagara Purple Eagles in a non-league doubleheader on Nan Harvey Field Wednesday afternoon.

The Bulls were upended in both stanzas, falling 10-7 in the opener and later suffering a 5-1 setback.

Freshman Lindsey Hampton (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) had a career day in the batters box, finishing the day 4-for-7 with a double and three RBIs.

Bulls Take On MAC-Leading Kent State

UB hosted MAC-leading Kent State in single games on Saturday and Sunday on Nan Harvey Field. The Bulls were upended in both games, falling to the Golden Flashes 5-0 on Saturday and 4-0 on Sunday.

Russell Has Solid Weekend At Plate

Buffalo senior Mary Russell (Apalachin, NY/Owego) had an excellent offensive showing against a hard-hurling Kent State pitching staff. Through the two-game series, Russell finished 3-for-5 with a walk and a stolen base.

Barr Stellar In Circle

Sophomore pitcher Sharon Barr (Coarsegold, CA/Yosemite Union) had another solid weekend in the pitcher’s circle, throwing 13 innings against Kent State and another seven against Niagara during the week. Barr finished the week with a 3.60 ERA, including 13 strikeouts.

Next Up

The Bulls return to action on Wednesday, as Buffalo will take on Syracuse University in a non-league doubleheader in Syracuse. Game time is slated for 1:00 pm. UB will then host Eastern Michigan in a MAC doubleheader on Friday, 5/2 at 1:00 pm on Nan Harvey Field.
