The Bulls then wrapped up their last road trip of 2009 at Bowling Green and Toledo. The Bulls split their double header with Bowling Green on Friday, dropping the first game 7-1, but rebounding with a 2-1 win in game two. Against Toledo, the Bulls pulled out a close 3-2 victory on Saturday, but dropped Sunday’s game to the Rockets, 3-1.
UB jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning of the opener as Lindsey Hampton brought home Dana Carter with an RBI single. The Falcons came back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth and added another in the bottom of the fifth. Bowling Green’s Hayley Wiemer added a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to wrap up the scoring and seal the 7-1 Falcon win. Carter had two of the four Buffalo hits. In game two, Bowling Green scored the opening run in the bottom of the first inning. The Bulls plated both of their runs in the top of the fifth inning. Pinch runner Dominique Carcone scored UB’s first run as Kristen Gallipani singled. Gallipani came home with the eventual game winner on a Falcon throwing error. Diaz pitched the complete game, holding the Falcons to one run and two hits, while striking out nine batters. Sharon Barr and Gallipani had two hits apiece. Carter Hits Two Homers As Bulls Split With Toledo UB topped Toledo on Saturday, 3-2, but fell to the Rockets, 3-1, on Sunday. Seniors Carter, Ashley Kanavy and Erin Zilka combined for three hits and two RBIs to lead the Bulls in Saturday’s win. On Saturday, Carter hit her first home run of the season in the top of the third to put the Bulls up early, but the Rockets took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth. UB put up two runs in the bottom of the sixth for the win. Zilka’s double brought home Hampton with the tying run. Terese Diaz pitched the complete game, striking out eleven batters to earn her thirteenth win of the season. Diaz stranded eight Rocket batters to hold Toledo to just two runs.

The home run marked the third of her career and second in the weekend series with Toledo. Carter went two-for-three at the plate. Ford then connected for a fifth-inning three-run homer off of Diaz to complete the scoring. Diaz struck out seven in the loss and added a pair of hits of her own on offense. Next Up The Bulls have an eight game home stand this week, starting with a double header against St. Bonaventure on Tuesday afternoon. The Bulls will take on Big Four Rival Canisius in a double header on Wednesday before wrapping up the conference portion of their season this weekend. UB plays host to Western Michigan in a double header on Friday and Northern Illinois in a Saturday-Sunday series. Sunday’s game will mark the last home game for three UB Seniors. Carter, Zilka and Kanavy will all be honored before Sunday’s game.
