Bulls Sweep Big 4 Rival St. Bonaventure
Buffalo increases winning streak to seven with victories of 3-1 and 7-0
BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo softball team extended its season-high winning
streak to seven games on Wednesday at Nan Harvey Field as it swept the St. Bonaventure Bonnies by
the score of 3-1 in game one and 7-0 in the second game.
 | | Lacy Schneider | Although the Bulls trailed early in game one, they didn't trail for long. The Bulls managed
to score three unearned runs in the second inning after a leadoff double from freshman
Lacy Schneider (Idyllwild, CA/Hemet) and a walk from freshman
Laura Kor (Beaverton, OR/Westview). On
a passed ball on a strikeout both runners moved into scoring position. The problems continued for
the Bonnies behind the plate. Schneider scored the first run for the Bulls off a second
consecutive passed ball while Kor moved over to third. Freshman
Kristen Jock (Latham, NY/Shaker)
reached base on an error, which scored Kor from third. Sophomore
Mary Russell (Apalachin, NY/Owego Free Academy)
hit a single to right field which scored Jock from first.
The three runs would be all the Bulls would need as sophomore pitcher
Sophie Barstad (Canby, OR/Canby) pitched a complete game for her ninth win of the season.
 | | Marcy Hansen | In game two, the Bulls got off to a fast start with a four-run first inning. The defensive
woes didn't stop in game two for the Bonnies as three out of the four runs were unearned.
Freshman Marcy Hansen (Claremont,
CA/Claremont) started off the inning with a one-out single.
After stealing second base, she advanced to third on a passed ball. Senior
Ann Magur (Endicott,
NY/Union-Endicott/Connecticut) walked, and with runners at the corners, the Bulls pulled a
double steal for their first run of the game, scoring Hansen from third. Magur moved to third base
when Schneider struck out, but another passed ball put her on base as well. Kor hit a sharp grounder to
the shortstop which was misplayed for the second Buffalo run in the inning. The Bulls would get
their third run of the inning on another passed ball which scored Schneider. With two outs and
two runners on base, freshman Kerry Cafazzo (Everett,
MA/Everett) singled, scoring Kor, before
senior Melissa Pace (Long Beach, CA/Millikan)
was thrown out at third.
The four runs would be all senior Stacey Evans (Collinsville,
IL/Triad) would need, but she would get some more insurance in the sixth inning. The Bulls got three more runs on four singles
to put the game out of reach. Evans pitched a complete game for her eighth win of the year,
only allowing four hits while striking out six.
The seven-game winning streak is the longest in the history of the Buffalo softball program.
The Bulls will look to improve that streak as they travel to Bowling Green this weekend for
a series with the Falcons. The series will begin with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 pm
followed by the third game of the series on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
