Bulls Sweep Bowling Green

Sophomore Breanne Nasti hits a grand slam in 6-1 win in the opener

BOWLING GREEN, OH - The Bulls scored a total of nine runs in their final at-bats in the seventh innings of a softball doubleheader at Bowling Green to earn two come-from-behind wins over the Falcons. Buffalo scored six runs in the top of the seventh, including four on a grand slam by sophomore Breanne Nasti (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin), to take a 6-1 win in the opener, and then scored three runs in the seventh inning of the nightcap, including two on a triple by freshman Ann Marie Magur (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott/Connecticut), to break a 4-4 tie and take a 7-4 win. The wins improve the Bulls' record to 9-22 overall and 4-13 in the Mid-American Conference, while the Falcons stand at 17-24-1 overall and 8-12 in the MAC.

Back-to-back doubles by Bowling Green put the first run across the plate in the bottom of the second inning, and game one remained 1-0 until the top of the seventh when the Bulls capitalized on four BGSU errors to score six runs. Buffalo's only hit in the inning was the grand slam by Nasti over the left field fence to score freshman Melissa Pace (Long Beach, CA/Millikan), sophomore Marce Ross (Innisfil, Ontario/St. Peter's) and junior Missy Switzer (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West). Freshman pitcher Stacey Evans (Collinsville, IL/Triad) earned her fourth victory of the season, going all seven innings and striking out six batters. Bowling Green's Jessie Milosek took the loss despite allowing no earned runs and seven hits. The Falcons committed a total of six errors in the game.

The Falcons got on the board early again in the nightcap, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning on two illegal pitch calls on Buffalo sophomore Heather Robbins (West Bloomfield, MI/West Bloomfield). A double by Natalie Phillips in the third scored Kandice Machain to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead before the Bulls got on the board in the top of the fifth on back-to-back doubles.

A double by Nasti scored Ross and junior Jessica Kensy (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale), and a double by Magur scored Melissa Pace and Nasti to give the Bulls a 4-3 lead. BGSU tied things up in the bottom half of the inning when a single up the middle by Jenifer Kernahan scored Machain. The Bulls broke the tie in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs on two hits. A triple by Magur brought home Nasti and Melissa Pace, and a grounder by sophomore Allison Round (Markham, Ontario/Markham District) drove in Magur with another insurance run. Junior Andrea Sage (Depew, NY/Depew) got credit for her first win of the year after relieving Robbins in the sixth and not allowing a hit in two innings of work. McKenna Houle suffered the loss for the Falcons after pitching the final two and two-thirds innings and allowing three earned runs on three hits.

Magur went 7-for-8 on the afternoon with two doubles, a triple, four RBIs and one run scored. Nasti finished the doubleheader with four hits in eight at-bats, including a double and a home run, six RBIs and two runs scored.

The Bulls and the Falcons will finish their three-game series with a single game on Sunday starting at 1 pm.
