Bulls Host Huskies, Broncos In Weekend Games

The University at Buffalo softball team played host to a solid Northern Illinois squad on Friday afternoon, falling twice in a Mid-American Conference doubleheader. The Bulls were narrowly upended 9-4 in the opening game and fell 10-1 in the nightcap.

On Saturday and Sunday, Buffalo hosted Western Michigan as the two teams faced off in a single game each day. UB dropped a tight extra inning battle with Western Michigan on Saturday, falling to the Broncos 9-4 in eight innings. On Sunday, the team fell to WMU 9-2 on a gorgeous afternoon in Buffalo.

Sophomore Dana Carter (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) put on an offensive clinic in her hometown over the weekend, as the infielder/pitcher lead the Bulls in batting, sporting a .364 batting average (4-for-11) in the Bulls’ four MAC contests. Carter was an integral part of all four of the Bulls’ runs in Buffalo’s extra-inning setback to Western Michigan on Saturday as Carter jacked a three-RBI bases-clearing double and scored the team’s fourth run on a wild pitch. Carter is currently batting .222 on the year and has started all 40 of UB’s games in 2007.

Jack Of All Trades

Senior Colleen Green (Cheektowaga, NY/Cleveland Hill) has been a valuable asset to the Bulls this season, as the senior has played seven different positions on the diamond in 2007. Primarily seeing time at second base recently, Greene has enjoyed action at every position except for pitcher and catcher.

Turner To Represent University

Softball and women’s soccer player Ashley Turner (Olean, NY/Olean) will represent the University at Buffalo at the 2007 NCAA Leadership Conference from May 27-31 in Orlando, FL. The five-day conference provides student-athletes with an opportunity to participate in daily activities that will enable them to be better leaders on their campuses and in their communities as well as to develop as individuals and as contributing members of a group.

After being added to the softball team’s roster in the middle of April, Turner has played in five games for the Bulls, starting two in the outfield. Additionally, Turner swiped her first career base in Sunday’s game against Western Michigan.

Next Up

The Bulls have an action-packed week ahead of them, as the team will host regional rival St. Bonaventure in a non-league doubleheader on Tuesday, April 24 at 3:00 pm. Then, on Thursday, April 26, UB is scheduled to take on Canisius in a doubleheader set to commence at 3:00 pm. Buffalo will then return to MAC competition on Saturday and Sunday, as the Bulls are scheduled to take on league-leading Kent State in single games on Saturday and Sunday. First pitch on Saturday is slated for 2:00 pm while Sunday’s game is inked to start at 1:00 pm.
