Softball Sweeps Stony Brook
Stony Brook (20-25) opened the scoring on the afternoon on a solo home run to center by Hayley Durham in the bottom of the second inning of game one. The Bulls responded with three runs in the top of the third, with Russell stealing home and Nasti hitting a two-run homer that scored senior Marce Ross (Innisfil, Ontario/St. Peter's).
Nasti got things started in game two with a two-out solo home run in the top of the first. Nasti's grand slam highlighted a six-run fifth inning for the Bulls that also included an RBI-single by Ross and an RBI-double by Pace. Magur drove in two more runs in the sixth with a double, and Barstad was hit by a pitch with bases loaded to plate freshman Shannon Prochaska (Aloha, OR/Aloha) with the other run in the inning. Stony Brook's lone run of the game came in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run by Margaret Blair that spoiled the Bulls' shutout. Sophomore pitcher Theresa Gugger (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley/Oneonta State) earned her first win of the season on the mound, allowing six hits in the complete game. Stony Brook's Sarah Hoffman suffered the loss, giving up 10 hits and nine earned runs and striking out six. Nasti was 5-for-6 with three home runs, a double, five runs scored and eight RBIs on the day, while Magur was 4-for-7 with a home run, a double, three runs scored and four RBIs. Ross and Pace both had three hits on the day. The Bulls are home this weekend for a three-game Mid-American Conference series
against Western Michigan. Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's single game both begin at 1 pm. |
