Bulls Score Two Wins During Week The University at Buffalo softball team turned in a solid week of play, finishing the week 2-4. The Bulls picked up wins over St. Bonaventure and Ball State. In a non-league doubleheader, Buffalo split its series with St. Bonaventure, scoring a convincing 6-0 win in game one of the doubleheader and later falling 8-3 in game two. On Friday in a Mid-American Conference doubleheader vs. Miami (OH), UB was upended twice, 9-1 and 1-0. The Bulls then split their MAC series vs. Ball State, defeating the Cardinals 4-3 in nine innings on Saturday and suffering a 6-1 setback on Sunday. Gallipani Has Hot Week At The Plate
Kristen Gallipani (Brewster, NY/Brewster) had an impressive weeks offensively, batting over .400 through the Bulls’ six games during the week. Gallipani finished the week with a .412 batting average (7-for-17) with seven RBIs, four homeruns and a 1.118 slugging percentage. Gallipani went deep twice in the Bulls’ 6-0 win over St. Bonaventure, inking four RBIs. Gallipani also secured Buffalo’s 4-3 extra-inning victory over Ball State on Saturday, stroking a first-pitch walk-off homerun. In addition, Gallipani chalked UB’s only RBI vs. a strong Miami (OH) squad, hitting a solo homerun against the RedHawks on Friday. Gallipani leads the Bulls in homeruns (5) and RBIs (13). Russell Strong With Stick
Buffalo senior Mary Russell (Apalachin, NY/Owego) led Buffalo in batting during the week, finishing with a team-high batting average of .421 (8-for-19). Russell finished with five doubles and two RBIs which enabled her to move into second place all-time in both career hits (149) and career doubles (35). Russell was also especially clutch in the Bulls’ come-from-behind win over Ball State on Saturday, roping a two-RBI double to force extra innings. Barr Brilliant On Mound
Sophomore pitcher Sharon Barr (Coarsegold, CA/Yosemite Union) had an outstanding weekend on the mound for Buffalo. Barr finished with a record of 2-1, including a 1.33 ERA. Barr surrendered just 13 hits through 27 innings pitched while striking out 12. Next Up The Bulls return to action on Wednesday, as Buffalo will host Niagara in a non-league doubleheader on Nan Harvey Field. Game time is slated for 3:00 pm. |
