NEW YORK, NY - The University at Buffalo softball team split a doubleheader with Columbia at the Columbia University Softball Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Bulls (15-19) won game one, 1-0, and the Lions (19-24) took game two, 5-1.

In game one, UB hurler Stacey Evans (Collinsville, IL/Triad) continued to dominate the opposition by tossing a one-hit shutout. Evans extended her streak of innings pitched without allowing an earned run to 69.0. The Bulls scored the game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning when Julie Hibner (Salem, OR/South Salem) singled home Breanne Nasti (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin). Evans slammed the door on the Lions by pitching a 1-2-3 seventh inning.

Evans struck out nine en route to her ninth win of the season.

In game two, Columbia scored two runs in the fifth inning and three more in the bottom of the sixth inning to jump out to a 5-0 lead. The Bulls finally got on the board in the top of the seventh inning when an RBI ground out by Jessica Labella (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) plated Mary Russell (Apalachin, NY/Owego Free Academy).

Columbia starting pitcher Megan Ivey did her best Stacey Evans impression by tossing a complete game one-hitter to earn the victory. Bulls' starter Theresa Gugger (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley/Oneonta State) was charged with the loss. However, only one of the five runs was earned.

The Bulls return to action on Thursday with a doubleheader at Stony Brook beginning at 3 pm.
