Softball Drops Doubleheader to Bowling GreenBUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo softball team fell to 8-34 overall and 3-15 in the Mid-American Conference after dropping both ends of a doubleheader to Bowling Green this afternoon at the UB Softball Stadium, 3-0 and 5-1. The Falcons (24-14, 12-3 MAC) entered the game as the top team in the MAC's East Division, and they held the Bulls to just eight hits in the two games. Buffalo freshman Breanne Nasti (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) led the Bulls' effort with a 2-for-5 performance from the plate, a double, two stolen bases and one run scored on the afternoon. The Falcons got on the board early in the opener, stringing together three singles in their first three at-bats, with Jen Domschot's hit scoring Nikki Rouhana for the game's first run. Bowling Green added two more runs in the fourth thanks to a double by Candice Machain that scored Rouhana and Crystal Wilson. The Bulls threatened in the second and the sixth innings, but were unable to put a run across the plate, leaving bases loaded in the second and two runners on in the sixth. Sophomore Jessica Kensy (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) and senior Kim Lawrence (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg/Erie CC) were both 2-for-3 from the plate, but the Bulls recorded just five hits as a team compared to BGSU's 15. The Falcons stranded 12 runners on base during the game, including leaving bases loaded in the sixth and seventh innings. The Falcons got on the board quick in game two as well, with Rouhana scoring on an RBI-single by Renee Rosemeier after reaching base with a leadoff double. Bowling Green added two more runs in the fourth inning on a double by Lynsey Ebel. Nasti began the Buffalo fourth by reaching base on an error, and freshman Heather Robbins (West Bloomfield, MI/West Bloomfield) followed with a walk to put runners on first and second. Nasti stole third when BGSU attempted to pick off Robbins at first, and she then stole home for Buffalo's only run of the game when the Falcons tried to throw Robbins out stealing second. Bowling Green increased its lead in the sixth, however, scoring two runs on an triple by Ebel. Nasti singled up the middle to start the Buffalo sixth, spoiling BGSU pitcher Andrea Genter's no-hitter. Robbins also singled in the inning, and freshman Jessica Labella (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) got the Bulls' only other hit in the game to lead off the seventh inning, but Buffalo could not put another run across the plate. The Bulls are at St. Bonaventure on Wednesday, April 25 for a doubleheader beginning at 3 pm. |
