Softball Concludes Series Against Ball StateBUFFALO, NY- The University at Buffalo softball team completed its two-day series against Ball State on Sunday afternoon at Nan Harvey Field. The Bulls were upended by the Cardinals, 6-1.
Sharon Barr (Coarsegold, CA/Yosemite Union) had another excellent showing on the mound for Buffalo, throwing four shutout innings in relief. Barr recorded three strikeouts, while giving up just one hit, one walk and zero earned runs. Ball State inked one run in the second and six through the next three innings to take a 6-0 lead into the sixth. After holding the Cardinals scoreless in the sixth and seventh, the Bulls rallied to score in the bottom of the seventh, emerging with one run. Stephanie Visperas (Newark, CA/Newark Memorial) led-off the inning with a hard-hit triple down the left field line. Kelly Cummings (Arlington Heights, IL/Prospect) then grabbed her first career RBI, putting the ball in play to score Visperas from third.
Visperas led the Bulls offensively, ending the game 1-for-2. Marcy Hansen (Claremont, CA/Claremont) finished the game 1-for-4 from the plate while Alex Bejarano (Chandler, AZ/Chandler), Lindsey Hampton (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) and Mary Russell (Apalachin, NY/Owego) all ended the day 1-for-3. UB returns to action on Wednesday when the Bulls host Niagara in a non-league doubleheader on Nan Harvey Field. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 pm. |
