Bulls Fall to Bowling Green, 4-1

Three-game series concludes tomorrow

BUFFALO, NY - Bowling Green scored four unanswered runs, two in the fifth and two in the seventh, to defeat the University at Buffalo softball team (8-32, 3-13 MAC) in the opening game of a three-game series at the UB Softball Stadium. The Falcons (22-14, 10-3 MAC) outhit the Bulls by a 9-4 margin and they had six hits in the final three innings to overcome the 1-0 lead that Buffalo had built in the third.

Sophomore Jessica Kensy (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) led off the UB third inning with a single to right center, and she advanced to second safely after an errant throw by BGSU's Lynsey Ebel on a fielder's choice ground ball hit by freshman Jessica Labella (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park). Sophomore Laura Gilcrist (Getzville, NY/Williamsville North) followed with an RBI single to left center, scoring Kensy and giving the Bulls a 1-0 lead. The Falcons came back in the fifth inning, however, putting two runs across the plate on four hits and leaving two runners on base. A double by Jen Domschot drove in Bowling Green's first run of the game, and a single up the middle by Renee Rosemeier scored Domschot with the go-ahead run. The Falcons added two more insurance runs in the seventh inning on a two-run home run by Rosemeier.

Freshman Heather Robbins (West Bloomfield, MI/West Bloomfield) took the loss on the mound for the Bulls, striking out six in seven innings of work. Bowling Green's Jessie Milosek also struck out six and went the distance on the mound to earn her seventh win of the year.

These two teams will conclude their three-game series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 1 pm at the UB Softball Stadium.
