Softball Drops Two at CMUMT. PLEASANT, MI – The University at Buffalo softball team completed its three-game series at defending Mid-American Conference champion Central Michigan this afternoon by dropping both games of a doubleheader, 5-2 and 7-0. Junior Breanne Nasti (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) led the Buffalo offense with three hits on the afternoon, including a 2-for-3 performance with a double and one run scored in game one. The losses drop the Bulls' record to 14-16 overall and 4-8 in the MAC.
A two-out home run by Michelle Brander in the bottom of the first inning started the Chippewas' onslaught in game two. Central Michigan scored three runs in the third, two runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth, taking advantage of six Buffalo errors, while pitcher Jessica Garvin held the Bulls to just three hits and struck out seven for her second career shutout. Nasti, senior Jennifer Moore (Williamsville, NY/Delhi (Ont.) District) and freshman Lauren Picciano (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) accounted for Buffalo's three hits in the nightcap. Starting pitcher Stacey Evans (Collinsville, IL/Triad) gave up four hits and three earned runs in 3.1 innings, and junior Heather Robbins (West Bloomfield, MI/West Bloomfield) pitched the final 2.2 innings of the game, allowing one unearned run on three hits.
The Bulls are now scheduled to play doubleheaders at St. Bonaventure on Tuesday, April 22 and at Niagara on Wednesday, April 23 before getting back to MAC play with a three-game series against Miami (OH) on Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26. |
