Softball Sweeps Central Michigan Alex Bejarano earns first career home run MOUNT PLEASANT, MI- The University at Buffalo softball team took on Central Michigan in a doubleheader this afternoon at CMU's Margo Jonker Stadium. The Bulls swept the Chippewas earning 3-1 and 3-2 victories on the day. In game one, Alex Bejarano earned her first career home run. Sharon Barr went three-for-six on the afternoon and earned a win on the mound, as Buffalo swept its first conference opponent of the season.
Buffalo jumped out to the early lead in game one. Lindsey Hampton opened the game with an unearned run in the first inning. To kick off the second inning, Bejarano knocked her pitch out of the park to give the Bulls the early two-run lead. In the same inning, Barr singled to right field. She was relieved on the bag by Dominique Carcone who advanced home on a Chippewa error to make the score 3-0. Central Michigan put a run on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning to prevent a Buffalo shut out, ending the game at 3-1. Terese Diaz started game one on the mound for Buffalo, but was relieved by Barr after 3.1 innings. Barr earned the win, holding the Chippewas to one hit.
In game two, the first two innings were scoreless before Central Michigan scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning. Buffalo took the lead in the top of the fourth with a string of hits. Erin Zilka started things off for the Bulls, singling up the middle. Katie Ivancich pinch ran for Zilka, but was thrown out as Kristin Waldron reached on a fielder's choice and then successfully stole second. Bejarano singled to right field, putting runners on first and third. Diaz earned the RBI on a fielder's choice bunt, sending Waldron home for the tying run. Barr went to first on a fielder's choice, as Diaz was thrown out at second. The play put Bejarano in scoring position at third. Dana Carter singled and advanced to second on a Central Michigan error, allowing Barr and Bejarano to score, giving Buffalo the two-run edge. The Chippewas scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to close in on the Bulls, but Buffalo held on for their second win of the day, taking the game 3-2. Barr started game two, pitching three innings and striking out three batters. Diaz finished the game, earning the win, as she held the Chippewas to just one hit. UB is back in action tomorrow when they take on Eastern Michigan at 2pm in Ypsilanti, MI.
