Niagara Spoils UB Home Debut

Bulls swept by Purple Eagles in softball doubleheader

BUFFALO, NY - Niagara University scored a doubleheader sweep over the homestanding University at Buffalo, 8-0 and 11-0, in women's softball action at UB Softball Stadium spoiling the Bulls' home opener.

UB could only muster six hits in the two contests. In game one, the Bulls picked up four hits and just a pair in the nightcap. No Bulls player had more than one hit in either game, but first baseman Tina Breakell (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland) had a hit in both games to lead the UB offense.

In the first game, Niagara's Jodie Bowers, Brooke Bradburn and Kendra Hettrich each had a pair of RBIs. Bradburn had a two-run homer in the sixth for the Purple Eagles. Lauren Huk took the win to improve to 8-2 while Jessica Kensy (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) absorbed the loss and is now 2-9.

In game two, Bowers had a bases loaded triple in the second while Hettrich and Randi Lawton each drove in a pair as Niagara took an 11-0 lead after three innings. Bulls starter Jessica York (South Dayton, NY/Pine Valley) took the loss and is now 2-5. Christina Martin allowed one hit for the Purple Eagles and improved to 3-3.

The Bulls are now 5-25. Niagara is 15-5. UB is next in action on Friday when they travel to Siena.
