Bulls Proceed With Conference Play

The University at Buffalo softball team continued Mid-American Conference play over the weekend, facing Northern Illinois and Western Michigan on the road. The Bulls finished the weekend 0-4

The Bulls suffered a 5-3 setback in game one and fell 3-2 in the nightcap against Northern Illinois. Katie Ivancich (Dyer, IN/Andrean) pitched a solid first game for Buffalo, throwing the complete game, giving up just five hits and zero earned runs.

Erin Zilka (Benicia, CA/Benicia) finished the day 4-for-8 from the plate while Marcy Hansen (Claremont, CA/Claremont) recorded three hits through the day’s doubleheader.

Bulls Face Broncos In Kalamazoo

The University at Buffalo softball team took the field against Western Michigan on Sunday, facing the Broncos in a doubleheader, scheduled as a result of a Saturday rainout. The Bulls fell to WMU 7-2 in the day’s first game and 7-1 in the second game.

Hansen again had an excellent showing offensively, finishing the series vs. the Broncos 3-for-6 while Zilka slammed her third homerun of the season.

P>With approximately half of the MAC season completed, sophomore Sharon Barr (Coarsegold, CA/Yosemite Union) has emerged as an offensive leader for the Bulls, leading the team with a .328 batting average. Barr is tied with Zilka for the team high in homeruns (3) while leading the Bulls in hits (21).

Senior Mary Russell (Apalachin, NY/Owego) meanwhile has used her experience to provide timely hitting through the first half of the season, leading Buffalo in RBIs (12) while recording 20 hits and two homeruns. In addition, Russell is 10-for-12 in stolen bases .

Next Up

The Bulls are slated to face regional rival St. Bonaventure in a non-league doubleheader on Tuesday, April 15.

Then, after 28 consecutive games on the road, Buffalo will host its home opener on Friday against Miami in a 1:00 pm doubleheader. UB will then face Ball State in single games on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s action will begin at 2:00 pm while Sunday’s game is set for 1:00 pm.
