Bulls Drop 4-2 Decision to Ohio Kristin Waldron earns first career home run BUFFALO, NY- The University at Buffalo softball team dropped their second of a two-game series, 4-2, against MAC rival Ohio on Sunday afternoon at Nan Harvey field. Freshman Kristin Waldron earned her first career home run and went two-for-four at the plate.
Early Ohio scoring doomed the Bulls as the Bobcats earned a quick pair of runs off Melissa Bonner’s two-run homer in the top of the first inning. Buffalo brought it within one in the bottom of the first when Candice Sheehan hit a triple to left center and scored when Erin Zilka singled up the middle to earn the RBI. The Bobcats scored two more in the top of the second to increase their lead to three runs. Waldron hit her first career home run in the bottom of the third, but it was not enough for the Bulls. Neither team scored again, but each had their chances. Buffalo loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth inning with Zilka starting things off with a walk. Waldron doubled and advanced to third on the throw, sending Zilka sliding home for an out at homeplate. Terese Diaz and Dana Carter both walked to fill the bases, but the Bulls could not produce a run.
Diaz started the game on the mound for Buffalo, and was relieved by Sharon Barr part way through the second inning. In 5.2 innings, Barr kept the Bobcats scoreless, only allowing four hits and striking out five batters. The Bulls will take a trip to Pittsburgh, PA for a mid-week non conference game against the Pittsburgh Panthers on Tuesday, April 14. The doubleheader is slated to start at 2 pm. Buffalo will resume conference play next weekend when they travel to Central and Eastern Michigan.
