Bulls Fall To Akron In Doubleheader Diaz pitches seven scoreless innings in game one BUFFALO, NY- The University at Buffalo softball team took on Akron this afternoon in a conference doubleheader at Nan Harvey Field. The Bulls dropped both games to the Zips, losing the first game 3-0 in eight innings and dropping the second game 8-1. The Bulls are now 18-15 (1-7 MAC) on the season.
Terese Diaz pitched the complete first game for Buffalo, pitching seven scoreless innings, striking out five batters and giving up five hits. The Bulls were scoreless for seven innings as well. Buffalo’s best chance came in the bottom of the fifth when Diaz singled and Kristen Gallipani came in as pinch runner to steal second. Dana Carter walked to put runners on first and second, but the Bulls could not produce a run. In the extra inning, Akron scored three runs to seal the first win, as Buffalo could not come up with a score in the bottom of the eighth.
In game two, Sharon Barr started on the mound for the Bulls, but was relieved by Diaz part way through the sixth inning. Akron scored a run in the top of the third and a pair of runs in the top of the fifth to take a 3-0 lead. Buffalo had four scoreless innings before earning a run in the bottom of the fifth. Kristin Waldron singled to left field and stole second to get the momentum rolling for Buffalo. Waldron went three for four in stolen bases on the day. Carter singled to right center, advancing Waldron to third. Both players advanced on an Akron error to give Buffalo its only run of the game. The game got away from the Bulls when Akron scored five runs in the top of the sixth to ultimately seal the game with an 8-1 win. Buffalo is back in action tomorrow against conference rival Ohio. First pitch is set for 2 pm at Nan Harvey Field.
