BUFFALO, NY The University at Buffalo softball team swept a doubleheader from the visiting St. Bonaventure Bonnies this afternoon at the UB Softball Stadium, earning a 5-4 come-from-behind win in the opener and running away with a 6-1 victory in the nightcap. Freshman Ann Marie Magur (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott/Connecticut) had a three-run home run and sophomore Marce Ross (Innisfil, Ontario/St. Peter's) had four hits and scored four runs on the afternoon to lead the Bulls' attack.

The Bonnies got things started early when Kim Dodson homered to left center to lead off game one. They went ahead 4-0 with three runs on two hits in the third before the Bulls got things going in the bottom half of the inning. Ross reached on a single and came around to score on a double by junior Jessica Kensy (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale), and Kensy and sophomore Allison Round (Markham, Ontario/Markham District) then both crossed the plate on a throwing error by Dodson following an infield fly. Buffalo completed the comeback in the sixth inning, first tying the game on a single by Kensy to score Ross, who led off the inning with a single to right. A two-out single by Magur then scored Kensy with the game-winning run. Freshman Stacey Evans (Collinsville, IL/Triad) picked up her first career victory on the mound, going the full seven innings and striking out five batters.

Game two was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Buffalo bats came alive. A single through the left side by sophomore Breanne Nasti (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) scored Ross with the first run of the game, and Magur then blasted her first career home run over the fence in left center to score Nasti and Kensy and give the Bulls a 4-0 lead. Buffalo got two more runs in the sixth when freshman Melissa Pace (Long Beach, CA/Millikan) scored her twin sister Erica Pace (Long Beach, CA/Millikan) with a single to right field and Round singled up the middle to score Ross. The Bonnies put one run across the plate in the seventh, but the Bulls held on for their third win in the last five games. Sophomore Heather Robbins (West Bloomfield, MI/West Bloomfield) pitched the complete game and struck out six batters for her third win of the year.

The Bulls (4-15, 1-8 MAC) return to Mid-American Conference action this weekend with a three-game series at Northern Illinois. The doubleheader on Saturday, April 13 and the single game on Sunday, April 14 both begin at 2 pm EST.
