Softball Weekly ReleaseBULLS LOOKING FOR FIRST CONFERENCE VICTORY
The Bulls are still looking for their first conference win of the season after losing all three games of a tripleheader with Ohio on Saturday, March 31 and then suffering a 5-0 loss to Akron on Sunday, April 1 to open the home portion of their inaugural Mid-American Conference season. On Saturday, the Bobcats (21-11, 6-1 MAC) hung on for 2-0 and 3-2 wins in the first two games before scoring seven unanswered runs in the final game to earn a come-from-behind 7-1 victory. Sophomore Jennifer Moore (Williamsville, NY/Delhi (Ont.) District) and freshmen Allison Round (Markham, Ontario/Markham District) and Breanne Nasti (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) each recorded three hits on the day to lead the Buffalo attack. Against Akron on Sunday, senior Kim Lawrence (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg/Erie CC) led the Bulls' effort with a 3-for-3 performance from the plate, and Round, freshman Heather Robbins (West Bloomfield, MI/West Bloomfield) and sophomore Kelly Malone (Waterford, MI/Waterford Kettering) each singled once in the loss.
KENSY TOUGH ON DEFENSE
Sophomore Jessica Kensy (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) has been playing strong defensive at first base for the Bulls throughout the year and especially since the beginning of the MAC season. Kensy has a .975 fielding percentage on the season and a .979 fielding percentage in Buffalo's seven MAC games. In those seven games, Kensy has committed just one error in 48 chances. She has just four errors in 24 games this season.
MOORE UPPING PRODUCTION IN MAC PLAY
Sophomore Jennifer Moore (Williamsville, NY/Delhi (Ont.) District) has recorded at least one hit in five of Buffalo's seven MAC games so far this season. She is batting a team-high .333 (6-for-18) in conference play after picking up three hits in series against both Kent State and Ohio.
NASTI CONTINUES STRONG PLAY
Freshman Breanne Nasti (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) continues to lead the Bulls with a .407 batting average (33-for-81) on the season. She has a school-record 11 doubles and seven home runs, contributing to her team-high .827 slugging percentage. She has also been providing strong play on the defensive side of the game with a .966 fielding percentage and just two errors in 59 chances.
ROBBINS RACKING UP THE Ks
Freshman Heather Robbins (West Bloomfield, MI/West Bloomfield) recorded five strikeouts in four and one-third innings against Akron on Sunday, upping her season strikeout total to 44. Robbins has 25 strikeouts in five MAC appearances this season, including 12 in two complete games against Ohio on Saturday.
UP NEXT
After two games against Akron on Monday, April 2, the Bulls with head to Western Michigan for a three-game series with the Broncos on Friday, April 6 and Saturday, April 7. Buffalo's next home game is on Wednesday, April 11 against St. Bonaventure.
