Kent State (11-7, 5-1 MAC) pounded out 11 hits and had two big innings, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the first and six runs in the bottom of the fourth, to dominate game one of the doubleheader. Buffalo's lone run in the game came in the top of the fourth when sophomore Melissa Pace (Long Beach, CA/Millikan) singled to left field to drive in senior Kelly Malone (Waterford, MI/Waterford Kettering). Senior Andrea Sage (Depew, NY/Depew) took the loss on the mound for the Bulls, giving up 10 hits and seven earned runs while striking out three in 3.2 innings of work. KSU pitcher Melissa Rhodes went the distance for the Golden Flashes, allowing just five hits and striking out three.

Buffalo got on the board first in game two when sophomore Ann Magur (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) led off the game with a single to center, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by freshman Lauren Picciano (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) and then crossed the plate on a throwing error by KSU's Kelly Maehl following a grounder by junior Breanne Nasti (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin). The Golden Flashes tied the game in the bottom of the second inning on a solo home run by Lea Dorto and then put the winning run across the plate in the bottom of the third on an RBI-single by Grete Hornstrom that scored Maehl. Buffalo pitcher Stacey Evans (Collinsville, IL/Triad) suffered the loss on the mound for the Bulls, allowing seven hits and striking out five, while Kent State's Kate Leary earned the win, giving up five hits and striking out six.

The Bulls will now return home for a non-conference doubleheader against Colgate on Wednesday, April 2 at 2:30 pm at the UB Softball Stadium. Please note that those games were originally scheduled for Thursday, April 3. Buffalo will then host MAC opponents Northern Illinois and Eastern Michigan in doubleheaders on Saturday, April 5 and Sunday, April 6, respectively, both beginning at 1 pm.
