Bulls Shut Out By Miami, 1-0

Buffalo begins MAC season with 1-2 record

OXFORD, OH – The University at Buffalo softball team dropped a 1-0 decision at Miami University this afternoon in the three-game series finale in Oxford, OH. Miami (9-16, 2-1 Mid-American Conference) pitchers Courtney Salmon and Jackie Poggendorf combined for the four-hit shutout that dropped the Bulls’ record to 10-14 overall and 1-2 in the MAC.

Miami scored the lone run of the game in the third inning with Becca Garcia crossing the plate when Poggendorf reached on a Buffalo error. Garcia had reached on a double to left field and advanced to third when Jessica Zogaib was thrown out at home attempting to score.

Salmon allowed just three hits and struck out nine in five innings to earn the win, while Poggendorf picked up the save, striking out two in the final two innings. Junior pitcher Stacey Evans (Collinsville, IL/Triad) went the distance for the Bulls, allowing just four hits and no earned runs and striking out three.

Senior Allison Round (Markham, Ontario/Markham District) doubled and senior Breanne Nasti (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin), junior Melissa Pace (Long Beach, CA/Millikan) and freshman Mary Russell (Apalachin, NY/Owego Free Academy) each singled for the Bulls.

The Bulls are next in action for their home opener at Nan Harvey Field on Saturday, April 3, a 1 pm doubleheader against Kent State. The three-game series with the Golden Flashes will conclude with a single game at 1 pm on Sunday, April 4.
