Bulls End State Farm Classic With LossGREENVILLE, NC - The University at Buffalo softball team ended a tournament it would like to forget, falling 8-0 to Coastal Carolina, Sunday morning at the East Carolina State Farm Pirate Classic. The Bulls failed to score a run in the four-game tournament.
UB met a Coastal Carolina team who was also looking for its first win in the tournament and a strong Chanticleer pitching performance left the Bulls with just one hit in the contest. Sophomore Kerry Cafazzo (Evertt, MA/Evertt) was the lone UB player to get a hit in the game. Junior Sophie Barstad (Canby, OR/Canby), fresh off her MAC Player of the Week selection, got the start for Buffalo but was unable to silence the Coastal Carolina bats. Freshman Jennifer Biernacki (Medina, NY/Medina) came on in relief and finished the game for Buffalo. Fighting injuries the Bulls dropped all four games in the tournament and seven of their last nine. UB returns to action on Wednesday as it travels to Pittsburgh for a doubleheader with the Panthers. First pitch is set for 4:00 pm. The Bulls will open up their home season on Friday when they begin MAC play against Bowling Green. |
