Bulls Fall To Penn StateGREENVILLE, NC - The University at Buffalo softball team dropped its opener at the East Carolina State Farm Pirate Classic, finishing on the short-end of a 6-0 decision against Penn State, Friday afternoon at ECU Field. The Nittany Lions limited UB to just four hits in the contest.
Three of those hits came from Marcy Hansen (Claremont, CA/Claremont) and one was off the bat of freshman Ashley Kanavy (Syracuse, NY/Westhill). Despite the loss, the Bulls got a good pitching performance from junior Sophie Barstad (Canby, OR/Canby) who picked up her eighth loss of the season. The Buffalo defense had a hard time supporting Barstad as they were playing in cold, wet conditions. The majority of the PSU runs were unearned. The Nittany Lions picked up a run in the second and third, but it was a four-run fourth inning that broke the game wide open. The Bulls play two games tomorrow beginning with a contest against California, who is currently ranked seventh in the nation. That game is scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm. UB follows that up with a contest against the host East Carolina Pirates beginning at 8:00 pm.
